E.COLI




1.) What is it ?
E.Coli is a common type of bacteria that can get into food, like beef and vegetable.




2.) Is it a eubacteria or archaebacteria?
Eubacteria




3.) How can you get it?
The most common way to get this infection is by eatincontaminated
food and person to person in day care, centers, and nursing homes.

4.) What are the symptoms?
Someone who has E.Coli infection may have these symptoms
  • bad stomach cramps and belly pain


  • vomiting


  • diarrhea, sometimes with blood in it


5.) How is it diagnosed?The diagnosis is made by finding E.coli in a stool culture if you have bloody diarrhea, see your doctor as soon as possible. your doctor will do a culture to find out if tou have E.Coli in your intestine the culture has to be taken in the first 48 hours after the bloody diarrhea starts.



6.) How is it treated?There is no special treatment, except drinking a lot of water and watching for complications. Don't take medicine to stop diarrhea unless your doctor tell you to.



7.) How can you keep from getting E. Coli infection?





  • Wash your hands carefully with soap before you start cooking.


  • Don't drink raw milk.


  • Keep food refrigerated or frozen


  • Eating under cooked ground beef (the inside in pink)


  • Drinking contaminated (impure) water.
